1st CECAM National Conference/Workshop Successfully Held

The first CECAM National Conference/Workshop was successfully held last June 20-21 2011 with the attendance of nearly 90% of expected participants. Attendees composed of Japanese and Philippine CECAM researchers and staff, program and project leaders of other related projects, and representatives from LGU’s, concerned government agencies, academic institutions and communities at study sites and funding institutions, among others. The line-up of activities was effectively carried-out in the attainment of the conference/workshop goals and objectives. The oral and poster presentations gave a plenary assessment in terms of gaps, progress and direction the status of CECAM providing practical knowledge and analytical skills for monitoring parameters and interpreting data useful in coastal resource management in relation to environmental changes. The workshop with focused group discussions provided a venue for the interactive exchange of knowledge and experiences on important coastal resource science, management and governance issues.  Indeed, mutual appreciation and learning on the part of the participants was generated to help improve the implementation of research and coastal resource management programs.
